A motor apprentice whose identity has not been revealed has been hospitalised as a result of injuries sustained during an accident which involved him and his boss.
The accident occurred when their tanker carrying 50,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) lost control and tumbled.
As gathered, the driver and the apprentice were in the tanker when it lost control on Wednesday. The incident occurred at Jin-Jofes Petroleum Station at Iwo Road area of Ibadan. It was learnt that no life was lost, but the apprentice sustained some injuries. He was later rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Thursday.
Akinwande said, โThe a fire incident was reported exactly at 20:07 hours on 6th August 2025 via telephone call from Mr. Adisa Kazeem regarding the trailer tanker accident at the specified address. The Agencyโs officers, led by ACFS Adeniyi Adesina, promptly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a DAF trailer tanker with registration number T17657LA (Lagos), with a capacity of 50,000 litres, loaded with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). The tanker skidded off the road into a nearby gutter, and its contents were gushing out.
โThe firemen quickly blanketed the spillage with chemical foam compounds to neutralise the flammability of the content and prevent it from catching fire from the surrounding areas. The accident resulted from a loss of control as the driver was attempting to navigate a bend in the road.
The driver and the motor boy were rescued alive; the latter sustained a minor injury to his shoulder and was taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. The situation has calmed down, and normal daily activities have resumed. The Nigerian Police Force from Akobo Division and Amotekun Corps were present to provide security during the operation.โ.
