The workers, led by the chairmen of the Trade Union Congress, Abimbola Fasasi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, Christopher Arapasopo, had gathered in large numbers at the entrance to the Secretariat early on Monday, awaiting Adelekeโs arrival.
When the governorโs convoy finally arrived after several hours of waiting, the workers led him to his office at the Bola Ige House, where he addressed them.
Before the governorโs address, the NLC chairman, Arapasopo, highlighted various achievements concerning workersโ welfare made by the Adeleke administration since its inception.
Arapasopo said, โMr Governor has made landmark achievements that have touched the hearts of every Osun worker. We, therefore, gather here to show our appreciation for Mr Governorโs uncommon care and support for workers. We are hereby declaring that come 2026, there is no vacancy in Abere Government House.
โWe are satisfied with your exceptional performance, not only for workers but across all sectors in Osun State. Your good work is everywhere.
โBy May Day 2025, we will officially endorse you for a second term as a performing and responsive governor. For the re-election, we stand solidly behind you.โ
Also speaking at the event, the Osun TUC boss, Fasasi, declared Adeleke a pro-labour governor, insisting that he has the unwavering support of the unions.
A statement by the governorโs spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, noted that Adeleke while responding, commended the workers for their support for his administration.
โTo me, every worker deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. The government has a duty to fully attend to the welfare of workers, especially the bureaucracy, which is the engine room of the government. It is a sin to neglect workersโ welfare.
โI affirm my passionate commitment to workersโ welfare, now and always. The more resources we have, the more we will deepen our pro-workersโ programmes and policies.
โWe are doing this because there is a link between Osunโs informal and formal workers. Until we complete the agro-industrialisation of Osun State, the civil service remains the main driver of the state economy. So, any care for the public service is largely support for all Osun people.
โWith your support, I will continue with the implementation of our five-point agenda, with workersโ welfare as the first priority. Together, we will take Osun to greater heights,โย Adelekeย said.
