There could not have been a better way of celebrating the season than the noble act of placing a premium on health and fulfilling the hope of some patients in the hospital.

This, Aviation Lions Club did at Kuje General Hospital, Abuja, when they paid up the bills of some patients during the Christmas celebration.

The amount, which is said to total N380,000 was for 25 patients, which according to the club, were randomly picked in collaboration with the hospital management.

Aviation Lions Club disclosed that they did not stop at just paying up those bills and turning their back at the hospital, but, according to the president, Chris Najomo, working in collaboration with the hospital management, they left their contacts behind for future support.

Najomo said: “Celebrating the festive season and realising there are sick people in the hospital who cannot eat, walk, talk or even pay their bills, we decided to step in and be that their long-awaited hope and let them know they are not alone, that we got them covered. Reaching out to the destitute in society is one great way our own joy can be complete.

“And believe you me, there is no better act of charity than assisting them with their health bills. You never can tell how much impact just a tiny act of kindness can have in the life of an individual.

“You don’t need to wait until you have the whole world before you can be a blessing in the lives of people.”

Ugwuocha Onuoha, the Activity chairman of the event, explained that the atmosphere at the hospital when the club arrived was that of despair. You can see it on the faces of the patients”, he said.

He noted that paying such a visit to Kuje General Hospital at such a time was a very right decision taken at the right time as some of those patients ended up reuniting with their families, especially for the New Year.

Beneficiaries, he noted, were chosen based on their health conditions and perceived inability to provide basic medical items for themselves.

For the general public, he advised: “Everyone should eat healthily, seek medical attention for any unfamiliar health sign. Prevention, they say, is better than cure and please, stay away from harmful habits.”
