FC Barcelona star Gavi has finally returned to training with the rest of Hansi Flick’s first team group as reported by SPORT and various other outlets.

Furthermore, via its social media accounts, the club shared a short clip of the youngster being welcomed back by his teammates at the Joan Gamper CT.

Gavi has been out of action since rupturing his ACL against Georgia while on international duty for Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier where many felt he wasn’t really needed by head coach Luis de La Fuente.

As a consequence, the Andalusian missed the rest of the 2023/2024 season Barca finished trophyless, in addition to the mentioned UEFAiShares MSCI EAFE ETF 0.0% international tournament which La Roja won for a record fourth time by beating England 2-1 in a Berlin final.

With a new club season already underway, and Barca once returning to the top of La Liga thanks to a 100% win record across four games thus far, Flick’s squad has been further boosted by positives signs regarding a midfielder who the German’s predecessor Xavi Hernandez described as an irreplacable “heart with legs” that was the soul of his midfield.

This week has already seen a return to training of another La Masia pearl in Ansu Fati, who is tipped to pick up minutes against Girona in Montilivi on Sunday for what should be an interesting Catalan derby.

Due to the more severe nature of his knock, with Fati merely boasting a foot injury, Gavi has zero chance of hitting the pitch at the weekend.

Instead, picking up some minutes in October is a more realistic target, and his inclusion will be gradual before he can be considered a starter.

One thing is for sure is that Flick seems excited about the number 6.

“When he’s on the pitch he’s on fire,” the ex-Bayern Munich boss recently said.

“We’ll give him the time he needs and hopefully he can be at the club for 10-15 years. We have to look after him. We know what he can contribute,” Flick added.

It will be interesting to see where Gavi fits in Flick’s system, with Pedri and Dani Olmo currently occupying the two attacking midfield spots.
