In October 2024, 12-year-old Eniola Shokunbi, a Nigerian-American from Connecticut, made headlines when she developed virus-killing air filters for classrooms, a project so innovative and effective that she received $11.5 million in funding to install them statewide in Connecticut schools.

Her invention, designed to improve air quality and reduce the spread of illnesses among students and teachers, earned widespread praise for its impact on public health and her exceptional ingenuity at such a young age.
