The Kano State government has inaugurated a steering team to propel a Five-Year Multi-Sectoral Investment Strategic Plan (2025-2029) that will enhance investment opportunities and attract business growth in the state.
The strategic plan is part of the state’s investment portfolio reforms being developed by the State Investment Promotion Agency (Kan-Invest).
The plan, which will be unveiled through an international investment summit, aims to create competitive markets across key sectors of the state.
Inaugurating the team on Friday, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, said the plan is expected to serve as a roadmap for the state’s domestic and foreign development agenda.
According to the SSG, the committee is entrusted with key terms of reference, including the review of existing policies and plans related to investment promotion and retention, the identification of investment priority sectors, and the recognition of areas where Kano State holds a comparative advantage.
He added that the team is expected to prepare a comprehensive document covering key priority sectors and design actionable strategies with proposed innovative incentives to attract, retain, and facilitate investors’ willingness to invest their resources in Kano.
Other terms of reference include establishing investment targets and key performance indicators for evaluating the implementation of the strategic plan, as well as setting short-, medium-, and long-term activities.
The SSG stressed the confidence reposed in the team by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who approved the selection of members based on merit and a track record of experience.
The 17-member strategic committee comprises individuals drawn from the development and private sectors, academia, and Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as the Kano Emirate Council.
Members include Alhaji Shehu Muhammad Dankadai (Sarkin Shanun Kano) as Chairman; former Vice Chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, Dr. Muhammad Sagagi, as Co-Chairman; Hon. Muhammad Nazir Halliru, Director-General of Kan-Invest; Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, and Industry, Hon. Shehu Wada Sagagi; and Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Abduljabbar M. Umar.
Others are Hon. Auwal Mukhtar Bichi, Jamilu Aliyu Galadanci, Abdulkadir Sulaiman, Dr. Tijjani Ahmad, Ado Muhammed Abubakar, Dr. Abdurrahman Rajab, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, Sadiqu Baba, Musaddiq Talle, Jibrin Ahmad, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Abdullahi (Shamsu), and Aliyu Muhammad Sani.
The committee has seven weeks from its inauguration to submit its report.
