The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that eight corps members who were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen have been released. The corps members were abducted while traveling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State.
NYSC Director-General, YD Ahmed, confirmed the news on Friday and urged corps members to avoid traveling at night. He emphasized that the safety and well-being of all members remain the organizationโs top priority.
Ahmed explained that the corps members were kidnapped on August 17, 2024, along the Funtua-Bisau Road in Zamfara State. The NYSC worked closely with the Army, Police, DSS, and traditional rulers to secure their release. They also held discussions with the governor of Zamfara State regarding the situation.
โThanks to the combined efforts of the security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army and the NYSC, the rescue mission was successful, and the first set of four corps members was freed,โ Ahmed said in a statement
