The newly appointed Commissioner of Police for Lagos State Command, Ishola Olanrewaju, has declared a war on crime, pledging to “smoke out” criminals from the state.
During his first media briefing, on Wednesday, he presented 98 suspected criminals and stressed a proactive approach to dismantling criminal networks throughout the state.
Olanrewaju’s plan involves collaborating with road transport unions to combat “one-chance” robberies.
He mentioned that to guarantee public safety, all commercial buses would be labeled and easily recognizable, allowing passengers to identify the bus they are boarding.
He highlighted a proactive strategy towards combating crime, outlining his team’s preparedness to dismantle criminal networks throughout Lagos.
Olanrewaju further revealed a collaboration with road transport unions to address “one-chance” robberies, guaranteeing that all commercial buses would be labeled and easily recognizable.
“Whoever enters a bus must know the bus they are boarding,” he said, highlighting the importance of this initiative in ensuring public safety.
Olawale elaborated on the outcomes of multiple well-coordinated police actions that have shaken the criminal underworld in Lagos.
He pointed out that these operations led to the apprehension of suspects involved in a range of offenses, such as armed robbery, cult activities, abduction, and drug trafficking.
There were notable confiscations, including arms, drugs, stolen items, firearms, ammo, $402 in cash, and 39 sacks of stolen rice, illustrating the extensive reach of organized crime into daily life.
