Lagos has been ranked as the 19th best city in 2024 even ahead of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Miami in the United States (US).
This is according to Time Out which recently released its latest report of the 20 best cities in the world based on its Time Out Index.
Time Out said the rankings were a result of a survey of more than 20,000 city dwellers across the world along with Time Out’s network of editors.
On what makes Lagos great, Time Out said whether you are a staunch Mainlander or from Lekki, there is something for everyone in Lagos.
It added that the posh Victoria Island continues to deliver a trifecta of swanky resorts, food haunts and nightlife while Lekki is for the brunchers while urging tourists to make Maple Lagos their first stop.
“On the mainland, Kuti’s Bistro in Ikeja, owned by the legendary afrobeat family, serves up reliably delicious food and hosts parties, karaoke and games nights,” Time Out said.
“And then there are the beaches – hit up Oniru Beach for some fun in the sun, but be sure to bring naira for this private beach.
“For those who live for the night, Hard Rock Cafe Lagos provides a massive indoor-outdoor playground with top artists including DJ Obi (‘Obi’s House’ on Mondays), who set a Guinness World Record in 2016 for a 240-hour marathon set.”
Time Out further called on tourists to visit Lagos now because both the city and its suburbs are expanding, asking them to check out live-work-play concept Eko Atlantic City.
According to the report, just out of town, Epe, on the north side of Lekki Lagoon, is experiencing a boom with the town home to the legendary Oluwo Fish Market, the biggest in Lagos state, where almost all traders are women.
Time Out also said in the report that fittingly, there is a giant two-fish statue in the centre of Epe town.
Time Out added that 98 percent of locals would call Lagos beautiful and the city got a 92 percent friendliness rating, too.
