Major General Godwin Mutkut officially assumed command as the new Force Commander (FC) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) during a handover ceremony held at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

He succeeded Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, whose tenure was marked by notable achievements in strengthening regional security and combating terrorism across the Lake Chad Basin.

In his inaugural address, Mutkut expressed gratitude to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the contributing member states for entrusting him with this critical role.
He pledged to build on the successes of his predecessors and to advance the MNJTF’s mission of fostering peace and stability in the region.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility and committed to working closely with all stakeholders to consolidate our gains and address the evolving security challenges in the Lake Chad Basin,” he said.

Outgoing Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali congratulated his successor and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the MNJTF to even greater achievements.

Highlighting Major General Mutkut’s vast operational experience, including his previous roles as Commander of Sector 3 MNJTF, General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, and Force Commander of Operation HADARIN DAJI in Nigeria, he described him as a highly capable leader well-suited to address the region’s complex security challenges.

Major General Godwin Mutkut is a seasoned senior officer of the Nigerian Army, renowned for his extensive operational experience and exemplary leadership. Known as a tenacious commander, he previously led the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, a formation recognized for its effective operations against terrorists and bandits in Northwest Nigeria.

His appointment reflects the commitment of MNJTF member states to ensuring capable leadership in addressing the dynamic security challenges within the Lake Chad Basin.
