The National Automotive Design and Development Council has trained 300 technicians and youths across the country in automotive mechatronics and heavy-duty vehicle repairs.
According to a statement shared with Saturday PUNCH, the training aimed to equip auto-technicians with advanced skills in the repair and maintenance of modern vehicles, which have become more electronic due to technological advancements.
The training which began on February 3, 2025, spanned across three states of Yola, Kaduna, and Abuja, with a closing ceremony held in Yola, Adamawa State, on Friday.
NADDC has also launched a similar program called NADDC Specialised Mechatronics Training in Calabar, Akure, and Umuahia.
During the event, NADDC’s Director-General, Oluwemimo Osanipin, lauded the training consultants, Skyrock Consulting Limited and the support received from the Adamawa State Government.
He emphasised the importance of the initiative in addressing the skills gap in Nigeria’s automotive sector, particularly regarding modern vehicle repairs.
Osanipin also highlighted the significant achievements of NADDC in training over 20,000 technicians and establishing 21 Automotive Training Centres (ATCs) nationwide, equipped with cutting-edge tools to foster continuous skill development.
He stressed the vital role of a skilled workforce in addressing the challenges of vehicular breakdowns and accidents linked to inadequate maintenance.
The Chief Executive Officer of Skyrock Consulting Ltd, Olayinka Akintola, expressed appreciation for the cooperation received from NADDC and the various state stakeholders.
