LAGOS – All is now set for the 22nd Annual Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists in Academia (NAPA), which will commence on Monday August 19.
The conference, a five-day event, will be rounded off on Saturday August 23.
The conference, tagged ‘Gateway 2024’, will be held at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Sagamu Campus, Sagamu, Ogun State.
Addressing the media in Ile-Ife, earlier in the week, the National Chairman of NAPA, Professor Ezekiel Olugbenga Akinkunmi, stated that the conference whose theme is, ‘Pharmacy Education, Research and Practice: Towards Local and Global Relevance’, will be attended by university administrators, academics, researchers, pharmacists, healthcare practitioners, scientists, students and the general public.
Akinkunmi noted that the theme of the conference was carefully chosen to impact on participants, adding, “It would offer opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, scientific presentations and exhibitions.”
Akinkunmi, also the Dean of Department of Pharmacy, OAU, disclosed that Dr. Kunle Tometi will be the keynote speaker, while the opening ceremony which would hold on August 20, 2024 (Tuesday) will be chaired by the Managing Director of Shalina Healthcare Ltd, Nigeria, Dr. Opeyemi Akinyele.
His words: “Papers will be delivered by distinguished scholars, which include Prof Martins Emeje, Director General/CEO, Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA); Prof. Oluwatoyin Odeku of the University of Ibadan and Prof Emmanuel Ibezim of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), on different aspects of academics as well as general pharmacy and healthcare practices.”
The chief hosts of the conference will be the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Prof Cyril Usifoh, and the Vice-Chancellor of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Prof Ayodeji Agboola, while the hosts would be Prof L. S. Kasim, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, OOU.
The conference would be concluded with the Annual General Meeting of the association, where new officers would be elected to run the affairs of the association.
