The Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, alongside other members of the newly appointed board, on Tuesday, received their official appointment letters from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, at his office in Abuja.
During the formal ceremony, SGF Akume congratulated the appointees and urged them to deliver on the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda for the South-South region. He emphasized that their appointments were a clear reflection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s confidence in their ability to accelerate transformation in the oil-rich region. Akume called for diligence, innovation, and integrity in the execution of their mandate.
In her response, Ms. Akpabio pledged that the Commission would prioritize improving primary healthcare systems, upgrading educational infrastructure, and empowering women and the elderly through targeted training initiatives. She affirmed the commitment of the new board to set the South-South Commission as a benchmark for regional development agencies across the country.
The event marked the formal commencement of duties for the board, with letters of appointment presented to each member. With the backing of the Federal Government and renewed energy, the SSDC is now set to usher in a new era of sustainable development, inclusive growth, and regional prosperity for the people of the South-South.
