Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Youth Civil Society Organizations, has blamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the socio-economic crisis in the country, and mandated him to respond to their demands within two-week or be ready to face the consequences.
Addressing journalists at the IBB Pen House, Minna, the youth group threatened that President Tinubu should respond to their demands or they will mobilize members to take over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The Coordinator of the Group, Comrade Abubakar Kutigi during the World Press Conference on, “End Bad Governance”, said Nigerins have had enough of wallowing in hunger and frustrations while only the political class live in luxury.
Comrade Kutigi enumerated the eight demands as; immediate reversal of subsidy removal with a pump price for PMS set at less than N230 (two hundred and thirty Naira) per liter, the revitalization of Nigeria’s refineries and the reversal of the increased electricity tariff.
Other demands by the group are; reversal of floating of Naira policies by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), stemming rising spate of insecurity revaging parts of the country and as well, reduction of taxes on consumables to ease hardship among the masses.
They also want the President to apologize to Nigerians for failing them, adding that he (President) should not have taking up the responsibilities of assuming the Presidency seat when he knows that he cannot manage challenges associated with such.
Comrade Kutigi who is the spokesperson for the group said the group also want the National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) to pass and support bills and motions that tilts towards accomplishing the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians.
Failure to adress the demands, Comeade Kutigi pointed out would leave them with no choice but to occupy Abuja, the federal seat of power.
Adding his voice to the planned nationwide protest starting today 1st of August through the 10th, the North-Central Coordinator of the Reformation Movement of Nigeria (RMN), Comrade Abdullahi Babangida Salihu, who was part of the briefing said Nigerians have the constitutional right to protest.
Comrade Salihu was however quick to add that such protests must be devoid of violence capable of causing loss of lives and properties but peaceful and orderly.
