The Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing youth-led peace initiatives across the region, alongside renewed efforts to promote academic excellence among students.

The student union said its new leadership will prioritise constructive engagement, sustained dialogue, and targeted programmes to curb youth restiveness, noting that lasting peace is essential for educational advancement and regional development.

The pledge was made by the newly elected National President of NIDSUG, Comrade Chika Precious Uchechukwu, during his acceptance speech in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, shortly after he was declared winner of the keenly contested union elections.

Uchechukwu also promised to prioritize student welfare through strategic advocacy, inclusive governance, academic excellence, and student empowerment.

He vowed to engage university authorities, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, and other stakeholders to secure scholarships, internships, and improved infrastructure for students.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration he promised programmes that would enhance the quality of education, instill moral values, and build leadership and entrepreneurial skills.

Uchechukwu said, “I Comrade Chika Precious Uchechukwu With a profound sense of humility, immense gratitude, and a heart burdened by the responsibility you have placed upon it, I stand before you today to formally accept the office of President of the Niger Delta Students Union Government (NIDSUG).

“We are not just students; we are the intellectual vanguard of a region brimming with potential yet beset by complex realities. We carry the dreams of our communities, communities that bear the weight of environmental strain, underdevelopment, and the constant quest for equitable resource control.

“Therefore, my administration will be built on four unwavering pillars, We will move beyond lamentation to strategic, data-driven advocacy.

“We will engage consistently with the University management, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, and other relevant bodies,” he added.

Earlier, the Chief Returning Officer,

of the NIDSIG elections, Pastor Tanam Gospel, while announcing the results, in line with Section 29F of the Niger Delta Student Union Government Constitution 2011, declared comrade Chika Precious Uchechukwu as the new National President of the students body.

Gospel equally declared comrade Onorhivwe Destiny as the National Vice President (Administration) and Assor Favour as National Vice President (Projects), Owonifa Josephine Tolulope the National Vice President (West), while Ojikpong Alexander represents the North.

Other key executives announced were Aighowamhi O. Mascot as National Secretary General, Sunyene Patrick Udofia as Assistant Secretary, Wenibo Solomon Peaceful as National Treasurer, Jackson Isuho Okon as Financial Secretary, and Frederick Bassey Ita as National Public Relations Officer.
