Security operatives in Kaduna have arrested six notorious armed robbery suspects said to be terrorising parts of the state, recovering arms, ammunition, and other exhibits.

The Kaduna Police Command disclosed that on September 11, 2025, at about 1900hrs, operatives of Operation Fushin Kada Tracking and Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Fahad Babangida, a notorious gang leader involved in armed robbery, shop-breaking, and vehicle snatching.

Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement, said Babangida was arrested alongside gang members Ahmed Lawal and Salahudeen Ibrahim.

He noted that intelligence reports indicated the gang was planning to attack and rob a retired NNPC staff before they were intercepted.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes and led operatives to another syndicate under the same gang leader,” Hassan stated.

The second group, comprising Isah Musa and Usman Abdullahi, was also arrested. They reportedly confessed to burgling several shops and snatching properties, particularly within the Rigasa axis of Kaduna metropolis.

The suspects further named receivers who allegedly aided in disposing of stolen items, including Kabiru Sabitu (alias Baban Godiya), Abdullahi Shehu, and Yusuf Saleh. According to Hassan, all were subsequently arrested and confessed to their involvement.

In a related development, Hassan revealed that on September 10, 2025, operatives arrested Abubakar Usman Bello, a suspected member of a phone-snatching syndicate.

He confessed to belonging to a criminal group specializing in phone theft and identified his receivers. Recovered exhibits included one laptop and 45 handsets. The case has been charged to court.

On September 15, 2025, at about 0130hrs, a patrol team from Kabala West Division arrested two suspects, Ibrahim Hassan (19) and Usman Abubakar (21), while on routine patrol near Unguwar Mu’azu Bypass Expressway.

A search revealed a 9mm pistol loaded with three live rounds of ammunition in their possession. Investigations linked them to the gang terrorising the area.

Similarly, on September 18, 2025, operatives apprehended one Simon Haruna of Barikin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Acting on monitored telephone conversations where Haruna was negotiating the sale of a Beretta pistol, police arrested him in Lambar Zango, Birnin Yaro, Igabi Local Government Area. A made-in-USA Beretta pistol with three live rounds was recovered.

The suspect confessed to being a gunrunner operating across Plateau and Kaduna states.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift action.

He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal activities.

The Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information to aid ongoing security efforts.
