Sony’s new, slimmer version of the PlayStation 5 hit shelves in November last year and while it doesn’t do anything differently, it certainly takes up a little less space. And if you’re in the market for a new PS5 anyway, this is the model to get. The console suffered a jump in price with that refresh, and that means that it’s worth checking for a deal when it comes time to splash your cash. It just so happens that Amazon’s Prime Day sales can save you $50 off both disc-based and digital-only consoles right now. The digital-only model is currently down to $400, with the disc drive-equipped version now down to $449. However, stocks have so far been volatile and the digital-only version is currently showing as out of stock (watch out for “Buy used” next to the price and avoid those). That could well change at any minute, though, so make sure to check back if that’s the model you want.
These deals are well worth taking advantage of if you want to access next-gen games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls and many more. Just note that these prices are exclusively available to Prime members.
Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.
“I’m extremely impressed with the entire PS5 package,” CNET’s Dan Ackerman wrote in his review of the original 2020 model. “The design is bold. The new controller is a big step forward, both in ergonomics and features, and the addition of the new built-in controller mic (and sold-separately new HD webcam) will no doubt send many new streamers to Twitch and other platforms to show off.”
Aside from the slimmer design, the only noticeable difference under the hood is that the new model has 1TB of storage instead of 825GB. The disc drive can also be removed. If you’re a basketball fan, a PS5 digital edition bundle with NBA 2K25 has similarly dropped in price, from $500 to $450. A great excuse to treat yourself, as we’re unsure if the holiday sales will beat this.
