President Bola Tinubu was on Wednesday received in London by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace for a private meeting.
Tinubu, who first met the English monarch at the COP28 Summit in Dubai last November, is visiting Buckingham Palace at the Kingsโs request.
The meeting โhighlights the enduring and cherished relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom,โ said Tinubuโs Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a statement he signed Thursday.
The statement is titled โPresident Bola Tinubu Meets with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.โ
Onanuga revealed that both leaders discussed global and regional matters of shared priority, focusing on the urgent and complex challenge of climate change.
Tinubu and King Charles III also explored opportunities for collaboration in anticipation of the upcoming COP 29 Summit in Azerbaijan and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa.
He โreiterated Nigeriaโs firm commitment to addressing climate change in a manner that aligns with the countryโs energy security objectives whilst affirming Nigeriaโs readiness to adopt global strategies for sustainability,โ the statement read.
During their dialogue, the two leaders also shared ideas for innovative approaches to climate financing and funding, expressing mutual interest in strengthening partnerships by harnessing Nigeriaโs leadership position in Africa and the Commonwealth.
