A support group for President Bola Tinubu, South East Renewed Hope Agenda, on Friday empowered over 300 Small and Medium Enterprises in Imo State.
The National Coordinator of the group, Belusochukwu Enwere, said in Owerri, the state capital, that the aim of the programme was to uplift enterprising Nigerians by supporting their skills and businesses to drive economic growth.
He said, โThe programme seeks to empower thousands of youths and women across the South East region.
โThe first phase of the empowerment programme, with financial support distributed as follows: 100 SMEs received โฆ200,000 each. Another 100 individuals received โฆ100,000 each. 200 SMEs were given โฆ50,000 each. 500 indigent families received โฆ20,000 each.
โIn addition to the financial aid, skilled individuals were provided with tools such as sewing machines, grinding machines, and other equipment to support their businesses. Beneficiaries also received bags of rice as Christmas hampers.
Enwere emphasised that the programme aligns with the Renewed Hope Agendaโs objective of connecting citizens to government policies and ensuring they benefit from the dividends of democracy.
He praised Tinubu for implementing reforms, such as local government autonomy, which he said would enhance grassroots development, and tax reforms aimed at boosting businesses and reducing excessive taxation.
The event featured a keynote address by Professor Frank Aneto from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
Speaking on the topic, โEmpowering South East Nigeria for Economic Emancipation and Prosperity,โ he underscored the importance of youth empowerment and political emancipation in unlocking the regionโs economic potential.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of cheques and empowerment items to beneficiaries.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Tinubu and Enwere for their efforts in uplifting citizens and fostering economic growthย inย theย region.
