…Carrier launches first regional operation linking Lagos and Abuja to Ghana’s capital
United Nigeria Airlines has announced the commencement of direct flights to Accra, Ghana, marking its historic entry into regional operations and expanding its footprint beyond Nigeria’s borders.
The new service, set to begin on 10 November 2025, will operate from both Lagos and Abuja to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, enhancing travel connectivity between the two West African nations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the airline described the new route as a “significant step forward” in its quest to establish a strong presence across Africa’s regional aviation market.
Speaking in Lagos, the Chief Operating Officer of United Nigeria Airlines, Mazi Osita Okonkwo, said the development symbolises the airline’s commitment to progress, growth, and innovation.
“Ghana is an important part of our regional growth plan. This marks our first operation outside Nigeria, and we are truly excited about it,” Okonkwo said. “Over the past four years, we have earned the trust of travellers through our record of safety, punctuality, and exceptional customer service — principles that will continue to define our operations as we move into regional and international markets.”
Okonkwo noted that the airline’s debut in Ghana not only strengthens its brand but also contributes to improving air connectivity and economic exchange between Nigeria and Ghana.
“With our entry into the Accra route, we are expanding travel options for both business and leisure travellers while flying the Nigerian flag proudly across West Africa,” he added. “Our mission remains clear — to unite people, cultures, and aspirations through reliable and efficient flight operations.”
According to the airline, tickets for the Lagos–Accra–Lagos and Abuja–Accra–Abuja flights are already available for purchase on its booking portal and through accredited travel agents.
The airline also revealed plans to increase its domestic coverage with new routes — including Abuja–Sokoto and Ilorin — expected to commence in November as part of its broader expansion strategy.
Since its establishment in 2021, United Nigeria Airlines has become one of the country’s fast-growing carriers, connecting major cities across Nigeria with a reputation for dependable service.
The launch of the Accra route represents a major stride in the airline’s ambition to become a leading regional player and a key driver of West African aviation connectivity.
