Dr. Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State, presided over a significant swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Dazigau. The event, held on Friday, aimed to induct and empower the new corps members as they embark on their national service.
Addressing the gathered corps members, families, and guests, Governor Buni who was represented by Professor Muhammad Bello Kawuwa, the Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology expressed his delight in welcoming the youths to Yobe State, emphasizing that their deployment is part of a divine plan. He encouraged the corps members to view this service period as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Nigeria.
The Governor acknowledged the upcoming three-week orientation period will demand strength, discipline, and commitment from the corps members. He urged them to take the training seriously, highlighting the invaluable experiences and skills the NYSC provides, which contribute to peace and progress in the nation.
In a commitment to the welfare and security of the corps members, Buni assured that the state government prioritizes their safety and well-being. He directed security agencies and community leaders to ensure a conducive environment for the corps members, promising improvements to camp facilities and infrastructure to facilitate effective training.
Buni concluded his address by welcoming the corps members once more and wishing them a successful orientation, officially declaring the orientation course open. The ceremony marks another step in the ongoing journey of the NYSC, fostering national unity and youth empowerment across the Country Country.
On his part, the State Coordinator NYSC Yobe, Okochi Okpara On behalf of the Director-General, Management, Staff and the entire Corps Members serving in Yobe State expressed that, “I want to congratulate you for the successful completion of your studies from the various institutions of higher learning which qualified you for mobilization into the NYSC Scheme. Accept our hearty congratulations!”
According to him, “The orientation course is the pivot upon which other programmes of the service year rests on, to this extent Corps Members will be exposed to programmes and activities that will give them a better understanding of the objectives of the NYSC Scheme as well as the Environment, Language and the Culture of their host community”.
“Consequently, a comprehensive programme has been packaged which includes: Military Drills, Man ‘O’ War and Leadership Training, Language Studies, Entrepreneurship Lectures, Sports etc. which you are expected to undergo during the orientation course for the purposes of training. learning and mentorship”.
“In this regard, I urge you to participate in all the camp activities which are mandatory as you will derive immense benefits from the activities. Equally, you MUST obey ALL camp rules and respect camp officials, as acts of insubordination will not be condoned. Note; your assessment for the service year commences right here from this camp”.
“Your Excellency, Ladies and Gentlemen, at the close of registration, a total of 1,200 Corps Members were registered and I am glad to report that so far they have been of good conduct. This is an indication that by the end of the orientation course we will be sending into our communities a crop of Corps Members that are ready to serve the fatherland with commitment and selflessness”.
“On this note, I will like to sincerely express our gratitude to His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Mai Mala Buni, CON (Walin Damaturu, Chiroman Gujba), for His continuous support of the NYSC Scheme in Yobe State. I am also grateful to the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, as well as our collaborating Agencies, Royal Fathers, and Corps Employers for their continuous support to the Scheme”.
