The Art and Culture Writers Association of Nigeria (ACWAN) has joined members of the media and the arts community to mourn the death of Evelyn Osagie, an Assistant Editor with The Nation Newspaper, who passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, in Lagos after a brief illness.

Osagie, widely respected as a reporter, poet, and cultural advocate, was described as “a cherished voice and inspiring figure within our community” in a statement signed by Mr. Tony Okuyeme, Chairman of ACWAN’s Caretaker Committee.

“It is with deep sadness and sense of loss that the Art and Culture Writers Association of Nigeria (ACWAN) announces the passing of our esteemed colleague and member, Evelyn Osagie,” the statement read.
ACWAN praised her for dedicating her career to celebrating and nurturing the arts through her writings, spoken-word performances, and cultural advocacy. “She enriched our cultural landscape with her insightful works, passionate advocacy, and unwavering commitment,” the group said.

The association noted that Osagie touched many lives, inspiring artists, writers, and enthusiasts while fostering a greater appreciation for culture in its many forms. “Her legacy is one of creativity, kindness, and enduring love for cultural expression,” the statement added.

While expressing condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, ACWAN also called on members and supporters to join in paying tribute to her memory. “May Evelyn Osagie’s soul rest in perfect peace,” the association prayed.
