Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have rescued five kidnapped victims, decimated a notorious kidnapping gang, and recovered arms and ammunition in different operations across Kebbi and Abia states.

This breakthrough was announced in a statement released by the force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday morning.

“The Nigeria Police Force, in its continuous efforts to bolster internal security and protect the lives and property of citizens, has again recorded significant breakthroughs in recent anti-crime operations.

“These operations carried out recently in Kebbi and Abia States, have led to the successful rescue of five (5) kidnapped victims, the decimation of a notorious kidnapping gang, and the recovery of arms and ammunition,” the statement read in part.

On August 15, police operatives attached to the State Command on routine patrol around Dankade Village in Ribah District in Kebbi encountered a group of armed bandits and engaged them in a gun duel.

During the operation, two victims, who had been kidnapped on August 9 while grazing their cattle in Gairi Forest, Zamfara State, were rescued.

In Abia, Police operatives acting on credible intelligence stormed a kidnapper’s den at Umuiku Obete Village in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

According to Adejobi, he criminal gang was notorious for terrorising residents and commuters along Umuozo Village and Uratta Road, off Port Harcourt Road. He added that police operatives engaged them in a gun duel, which resulted in the neutralisation of five members of the notorious gang.

“A thorough search of the scene led to the recovery of 6 AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of live ammunition, 14 magazines, 5 handsets, 3 cutlasses, 5 operational jackets, an axe, a pair of boots, 1 polo charm, and 1 double-barreled long gun. Follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,” Adejoni noted.

The operatives who were involved in the operations were commended by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who urged them to intensify the ongoing fight against criminals across the country.

Egbetokun also reiterated the NPF’s commitment to combating crime and maintaining law and order in Nigeria.
