A drunk Zambian police officer, Detective Inspector Titus Phiri, allegedly freed 13 suspects from custody on New Year’s Eve to let them celebrate, according to officials.
The suspects, accused of assault, robbery, and burglary, remain at large as a manhunt is underway. Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that Phiri, while intoxicated, forcibly took cell keys from Constable Serah Banda before fleeing the station. Phiri has since been arrested.
