The Anambra State Government said it is poised to revolutionise its transportation system with an investment of N2.5bn in mass transit as captured in the 2025 budget.
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Ejiofor Opara, in a statement on Wednesday, said this strategic move is expected to catapult the state into a new era of economic growth, reduce traffic congestion, and significantly enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
Opara said the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure is evident in this significant allocation, adding that by focusing on mass transit, Anambra aims to provide efficient, reliable, and affordable transportation options for its citizens.
He said, “This initiative will stimulate economic activity, creating jobs and opportunities for businesses to thrive. With the inclusion of marine transportation, the project’s scope extends beyond road networks, ensuring a comprehensive and integrated transportation system.
“The benefits of this investment are multifaceted. Improved infrastructure will increase connectivity, facilitating the seamless movement of people and goods. Economic growth will be spurred as upgraded transportation systems attract investments, boost trade, and stimulate economic expansion.
“Moreover, reduced traffic congestion will lead to lower emissions, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. Perhaps most importantly, efficient mass transit systems will provide equal access to opportunities, services, and amenities for all residents.”
According to him, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development agenda prioritises strategic projects, including infrastructure development, economic empowerment, education, healthcare, and security.
He explained that the mass transit initiative aligns perfectly with this vision, demonstrating the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to flourish and residents to live comfortably.
