Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has in a statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director General Press and Media Affairs, expressed shock and sadness over the early morning fire outbreak at the Bayan Tasha market in Damaturu.
Describing the incident as “sad, most unfortunate, and ill-timed,” Governor Buni noted that it occurred at a challenging moment of economic hardships. He directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to take stock of the damages, including the number of shops and traders affected, as well as the estimated value of loss.
The Governor consoled the victims, saying “as faithfuls, nothing happens to a believer except with the knowledge of our creator.” He prayed to Allah (SWT) against future occurrences and to replenish the sad loss.
Governor Buni also advised the people to take proactive measures against fire outbreaks, especially with the cold harmattan season setting in. He directed the fire service department to be on standby against possible outbreaks during the windy season.
