Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, the Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members to be dedicated to national service as they proceed to their places of primary assignment.
She gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II Orientation Course held at the parade ground of the Sagamu Orientation Camp.
In her address, Mrs. Nasamu commended the corps members for their resilience and discipline throughout the three-week camp experience, describing them as patriotic Nigerians who have embraced the spirit of service to the nation.
“Your ability to be amenable to discipline and strict adherence to camp rules and regulations have demonstrated remarkable strength of character and a desire to serve your fatherland without fear of failure,” she said.
She urged them to integrate with their host communities, respect local cultures, and remain apolitical while striving to improve the living conditions of their assigned communities through meaningful Community Development Service (CDS) projects.
Highlighting the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, Mrs Nasamu encouraged corps members to build on the skills acquired during the camp by participating in post-camp training at their respective local government areas.
Furthermore, she emphasized the need for vigilance and security consciousness, advising corps members to avoid risky behaviours, crime, drug abuse, cybercrime, and other social vices.
“Stay away from night crawling or putting yourself in situations that will endanger your life. Remember that your induction into the NYSC family does not absolve you from facing the legal consequences of your actions,” she cautioned.
As part of the ceremony, commendation letters were presented to corps members and camp officials who distinguished themselves during the orientation programme.
In addition, posting letters were issued to all corps members assigned to their respective Places of Primary Assignment across Ogun State.
Mrs. Nasamu also called on corps employers, state and local government authorities, traditional institutions, and security agencies to provide an enabling environment that would support the corps members in contributing to the economic development of Ogun State.
The event marked the conclusion of an intensive three-week orientation programme, preparing the corps members for the challenges and responsibilities of national service in their respective locations.
