An Upper Area Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Kuje, Abuja has issued an interim injunction restraining a parallel Board of Trustees (BOT) of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) from conducting a conference or form a rival executive council.
The Court sitting on an ex-parte motion, granted the prayers of the Incorporated Trustees of NAPPS, as it restrained the members of the parallel BoT chaired by Dr Mijinyawa, its NEC led by Hajiya Samira Jibril, and state NAPPS affiliates.
In the ruling delivered by Hon. Justice Gambo Garba in the motion no. MT/72/2024, the Honourable Court listening to the oral submission of S.0 Adanlawo Esq, Counsel to the
applicant, who move in terms of the motion papers, deemed it fit to grant the Applicant’s prayers for the interest of justice as prayed.
The Honourable Court ordered as follows: “The defendants by themselves, assigns, officers,
agents, staff or any other person acting for them are restrained from organizing or participating in the purported conference of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, to be held on 19th and 20th November, 2024 or any other date at BAZE University or any other Venue.
“The Defendants, by themselves, assigns, officers, agents, staff or any other person acting for them are restraining from running or operating a parallel
National Executive Council of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools.”
However, in his ruling, Justice Garba stated that the injunction would remain in effect pending the determination of the
motion on notice, scheduled for
November 25, 2024.
NAPPS Reacts
However, a statement signed by Engr. Jen Udochukwu, the
Assistant Secretary, Incorporated Trustees Of Association Of Proprietors Of Private Schools (NAPPS) urged members to remain steadfast in its commitment to upholding the rule of law, fostering unity within the association and advancing course of private education institutions in the country.
It stated, “All NAPPS States affiliates, as well as the majority of private school proprietors across Nigeria are enjoined to note that we have only one NAPPS legitimate body recognised by law. We have only one BOT and one NEC.
“We, therefore, urge all members and stakeholders to disregard all activities and communications with the illegal BOT led by Dr Mijinyawa and the illegal NEC NAPPS led by Hajiya Samira Jibril.
“All the deceived state affiliates and all NAPPS members are encouraged to aligned with the constitutionally established leadership of NAPPS NEC led by Chief Yomi Otubela.
“We urge you to attend the legitimate NAPPS International Conference and Exhibition (NICE Calabar 2024) holding on the 20th and 21st November, 2024 at the International Conference Centre, Calabar,” the statement added.
