LAGOS – Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State over the weekend matriculated a total of 2, 216 new students for the 2022/2023 academic session undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

At the 21st matriculation ceremony witnessed by scores of parents and well-wishers, the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo charged the newly admitted students of the institution to embrace self-discipline to be successful as they commenced the journey into becoming eagles.

Oyedepo spoke at the institution’s chapel and noted that no one will ever be any more accomplished in his pursuit than being self-disciplined, adding “Everyone is responsible for the outcome of his or her life.

“No one will ever be any more accomplished in his pursuit than he is self-disciplined. As I have often said, there’s nothing extraordinary on its own; it is man’s extraordinary input that makes it so. Access to the top is always at a cost of high-level discipline among others.

“The pain of discipline may be costly, but the result is priceless. Remember that the days of your youth are the days of strength, the most fertile season of your life. Endeavour to make the most of it.

“Therefore, self-discipline is what empowers the star in us to shine. No one can be a teenager twice, it is only once! Neither can anyone be a young adult twice. What we find in our tomorrow are simply the fruit of the seed of hard work, discipline and sacrifice sown today,” Oyedepo encouraged the freshmen.

The Chancellor also enjoined the students to invest their time, noting that the worth of a man’s time is what defines the worth of his life.

“What one makes of his time today, will determine the outcome that awaits him tomorrow. Endeavour to invest your time in your study, it will surely show tomorrow.

“In addition, invest your time in reading up materials that will help create the future you desire.

“If you don’t have time for good works, you will surely have time for evil works, because nature abhors a vacuum,” added.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University, Bishop David Abioye encouraged the students to stretch towards outstanding performance under the tutelage of the faculty, who he said is very vast and most current in their fields of endeavours.

He said to the students, “At Covenant University, there are no limits to thinking possibilities, no boundaries to making discoveries, no seal to attaining new heights and no end to creating new records.”

He charged them that with their utmost commitment, they would never have a reason to look back with regret on their choice to study at the institution.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Abiodun Adebayo expressed delight in the many achievements of the institution in just two decades of its existence.

He admonished the matriculating students to take full advantage of Covenant’s unique learning context that was second to none.

“I wish to congratulate all the matriculating students for being found worthy of enlistment into this royal academy,” he said.
