ABUJA – The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, in collaboration with the ECOWAS Gender Development Centre (EGDC), officially launched ECOWAS gender programmes in Liberia in Monrovia.
During the launch, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs Gbeme-Horace Kollie, expressed Liberia’s commitment to ensuring that the expected gains from the programmes are achieved. Professor Fatou Sow-Sarr, ECOWAS Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, highlighted the medical and financial assistance provided by the EGDC to women and girls suffering from obstetric fistula, the promotion of young girls in the specialised technical and vocational training sector through the award of excellence scholarships, and the assistance provided to women to improve the quality and competitiveness of their agricultural products, among other things.
A statement on Friday said that a
symbolic cheque for USD 250,000 was presented by EGDC Director Sandra Oulate Fattoh.
