….We Round Up Internet Fraudsters -EFCC
No fewer than 50 clubbers were said to have been arrested by officials of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an early raid of night clubs In Akure, Ondo State capital.
The anti-graft agents were reported to have arrested a young man, who was holding his bachelor’s eve with his friends, in one of the clubs at Alagbaka area of Akure around 1:00am on Saturday.
Sources revealed that the revellers were arrested for alleged internet crimes.
The sources said the anti-graft agents came in different vehicles and shot into the air when they arrived.
In attempts to arrest their targeted suspects, the EFCC officials shot tear gas and the clubs were covered with smoke.
In the process, no fewer than 50 persons were said to have been arrested with 20 vehicles seized from the clubbers besides gadgets, which includes smartphones, laptops and others items.
Sources said two soldiers who came clubbing were also injured during the raids.
But spokesman for EFCC, Dele Oyewale, who confirmed the raid, denied that no soldier was injured
He said the anti-graft agents only rounded up suspected Internet fraudsters, who were holding a Yahoo Party.
Oyewale said: “No soldier was injured. The operation was carried out to round up some internet fraudsters holding a Yahoo party.
“They were supposed to hold the party on Wednesday, and when they found out that we knew about it, they moved it to Saturday.
“The arrest was a result of diligent operation and we had followed them carefully before we eventually went for their arrest.”
