The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the rearrest of Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky, following her recent allegations against the agency.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Bobrisky was detained late Thursday as she was preparing to leave the country. She was removed from a plane by airport officials and subsequently taken into EFCC custody. The EFCC stated that her rearrest was necessary for her to assist in the investigation of bribery accusations she made against the commission.
“Yes, it is true, he is in our custody,” Oyewale said on Friday. “He made allegations against our officers and was invited to assist with the investigation, but he refused to cooperate. The House of Representatives also summoned him, which he ignored. He must come forward and substantiate his claims.”
On social media, Bobrisky posted a plea for help, sharing a video of an injury on her arm and claiming it was caused by her detention. This development follows her previous arrest at the Seme border two weeks ago, where she was detained on suspicion of attempting to leave Nigeria. At that time, she was transferred to the Lagos Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) for questioning.
Her accusations against the EFCC include an audio recording shared by activist VeryDarkMan, in which Bobrisky allegedly claims she paid N15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges. She also allegedly claimed to have spent her six-month jail sentence in an apartment instead of prison, crediting her “godfather’s” influence. In response, Bobrisky called the recording “fake” and threatened legal action for defamation.
Following these claims, a House of Representatives investigative committee has been looking into the alleged bribery involving the EFCC and Bobrisky. Preliminary findings indicate there is no evidence she spent her sentence outside of prison.
Bobrisky initially faced EFCC charges in April for misuse of the naira note, leading to a six-month prison sentence.
