YENAGOA – No fewer than two hundred students were on Thursday admitted into the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, in Bayelsa State.
The newly matriculated students of the institution were charged to take full advantage of the numerous opportunities in the polytechnic and dedicate themselves to their academics.
In his address, Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ekowe, Dr Agbabiaka Lukman Adegoke, gave the charge during the 10th Matriculation Ceremony held at the polytechnic main campus, Ekowe, Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State.
Dr Adegoke also urged the new students to invest their time and effort to make a significant impact in their chosen field of study in order to achieve success, while also urging them to shun cultism.
He said, “Matriculation marks your official acceptance into this esteemed polytechnic and signals the beginning of a new chapter in your quest for knowledge, skill acquisition and character development”
In his goodwill message, Amananaowei of Ekowe Community, His Royal Highness, Dr Toboro Andy Goodwill urged the students to be of good conduct in order to give the institution a positive image.
“You have a duty to perform, you owe your parents a duty who have given you this opportunity, you have taken an oath to be of good behavior, you are here to better the name of the school”
HRH Dr Toboro expressed appreciation to the management of the polytechnic for their dedication and commitment to the development of the institution and for offering admission to youths of Ekowe Community.
On his part, Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Obawale Adebisi, who delivered a brief speech on Matriculation: A Call for Participation in Nation Building pointed out that the role of education in nation building cannot be overemphasized as it enhances global competitiveness and addresses development challenges such as poverty reduction and economic sustainability.
Dr Adebisi urged the students to participate in nation-building by using the knowledge and skills they would acquire to address the several economic challenges in the country.
Some students, Newton Abel and Felix Anita expressed gratitude to God for granting them admission, they also thanked the Rector and lecturers of the Polytechnic.
