Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the redeployment of Ekpoma Divisional Police Officer and approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze as the new DPO.

In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said Nwabueze was expected to assume office as the new DPO with immediate effect.

It was gathered that the restructuring of the Ekpoma Police Division, in Esan West Local Government Area of the state, may not be unconnected with the rising insecurity in the area.

Ekpoma, in recent times, has been embroiled in a crisis after a peaceful protest turned violent, over insecurity

The crisis began on Saturday in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, when residents staged a protest over rising insecurity, including kidnappings, and the killing of a youth on Friday night.

The protesters blocked a major highway to express their grievances, but the demonstration was later hijacked by youths who attacked traders at the livestock market.

They also attacked and vandalised the palace of the Onojie of Ekpoma, Zaiki Anthony Abumere II, an act condemned by Governor Okpebholo.

Following the rising spate of insecurity in the area, the Edo State Government announced the postponement of resumption date for all public and private schools in Edo Central Senatorial District.

Meanwhile, the statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Benin by the command’s spokesperson reads: “The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that as part of ongoing security assessment and strategic repositioning in Ekpoma, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, Monday Agbonika, has ordered the reorganisation of the Ekpoma Division.

“The CP has also approved the posting of CSP Tomofe Nwabueze to assume office as the new DPO with immediate effect.”
