The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Lagos State Ministry of Health, in partnership with Onesight Essilorluxottica Foundation, has unveiled an eye care facility in Lagos to enhance the availability of eye care services to the public.
The unveiling of the First Vision Centre took place at Alimosho General Hospital in Igando, coinciding with the introduction of a program named “Effective Spectacle Coverage Initiative Nigeria Jigi Bola 2.0,” as stated on Saturday.
During the event, the National Coordinator of the National Eye Health Programme, Dr. Oteri Okolo, mentioned that the initiative, established by President Bola Tinubu, aligns with the global target set by the World Health Assembly for countries to achieve effective eye care coverage by 2030.
Okolo said, “Eye care is very important, and good vision is very critical to humans, and that is why this initiative of President Tinubu is to ensure that Nigerians have access to affordable glasses.”
While speaking, the President of Onesight Essilorluxottica Foundation, Mr. Anurag Hans, emphasized the organization’s dedication to addressing diverse eye impairments on a global scale.
He revealed that the foundation had launched initiatives to eradicate vision difficulties in 120 nations and had provided 18 million glasses to individuals worldwide.
