LAGOS – The Federal Government has been urged to give more attention to the public schools in order to raise the education standards of Nigerian children.
Speaking at the prize giving day to mark the 165 years of CMS Grammar School, Lagos, Mr Sheu Ibrahim Olanrewaju, whose son won the best three award prizes, appealed to the federal and state governments to give priority to equipping the public schools like the private schools to ensure all-round education for children.
Mr Ibrahim urged the government to do more by parlaying with management of public schools to fix their needs so that their students can excel in their studies like the private schools.
He noted that despite the mass failure in the last Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, private school students scored 30.1 and excelled more than public schools students.
He advised parents to monitor their children closely by advising and counselling them spiritually and equipping them financially.
The triple awardee, Master Tijani Olasheni Shehu, whose ambition is to become a Cyberspace Security expert, attributed his success to hard work, resilience, prayers and parental encouragement.
