A non-profit organisation, Junior Chamber International, has offered a scholarship to the first baby of the year in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on Monday.
The scholarship which covers the primary education of the child was accompanied by a presentation of items such as a baby cot, clothes, diapers, and baby wrapper, among others at the Oke-Ilewo Family Health Centre, in Abeokuta.
Addressing journalists, the newly elected JCI Rock City President, Dr Hazzan Kafidipe, explained the aim of celebrating the first baby as part of the organisationโs annual โThe future projectsโ which has been going on for over 13 years.
โOur scholarships are made possible through partnerships and sponsors. Weโve signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the parents, providing a copy and maintaining regular follow-ups to ensure continued support.
โAt Okeleowo General Hospital, we joyfully welcome the baby boy born at 4:50 am to the Olowokerรฉ family. Our dedicated team visited various hospitals, confirming that this hospital had the first baby. We pray for the childโs future success and contribution to society,โ he said in a release on Tuesday.
Kafidipe noted that after visiting different government hospitals in Abeokuta, they confirmed that the Oke-Ilewo Family Health Center welcomed the first baby boy to the Olowokere family around 4:50 am.
According to him โThis initiative, ongoing for over 13 years, involves welcoming the first baby of the year with gifts, sponsorships, and scholarships. This year, weโre taking it further by providing the baby with a fixed account.โ
Mrs. Olowokere Omobolarinwa, the mother of the newborn baby, expressed her gratitude towards the organisationโs leadership for their kind gesture.
โI appreciate JCI for the offer and kind gesture. It will go a long way helping the child grow academically,โย sheย expressed.
