The French Embassy as part of its commitment to support industry development, has partnered with the Nigerian International Film and TV Summit (NIFS) to sponsor a Nigerian delegation, comprising about 20 companies with dedicated stands, at the Nigerian Pavilion at Cannes.
The NIFS is a leading platform dedicated to advancing the film and television industries in Nigeria, across Africa and beyond. By providing opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation, NIFS plays a pivotal role in driving the growth and global recognition of African content.
MIPCOM is widely regarded as the premier global entertainment content market, attracting over 11,000 delegates, 3,500 buyers, and representatives from more than 100 countries, with over 320 exhibition stands.
Situated at the heart of the Palais des Festivals’ exhibition floor, the market combines high-end conference sessions, covering topics such as the Connected TV Summit, Streamers Talk, MIP Global FAST & AVOD Summit, along with a networking lounge featuring a bar area and a dedicated “Tech Demo Zone.”
Over four days, participants will engage in networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration, with the goal of elevating Nigerian content onto the global stage. Industry professionals and TV catalog rights holders will come together to explore new opportunities and tackle the challenges facing the sector.
By joining the Nigerian delegation to MIPCOM, participants reaffirm their commitment to showcasing and selling African stories that resonate both on the continent and globally.
Mr. Laurent Favier, Consul General of France in Lagos, stated: “After supporting a stand for Nigerian Animation Studios at the Animation Film International Market in Annecy for the past three years, the French Embassy in Nigeria is providing Nigerian industry professionals with a platform at MIPCOM. Coordinated with the NIFS platform, this stand will host over fifteen studios that will sell their movies, TV series, and TV shows to international broadcasters and platforms. This support for the Nigerian audiovisual industry was made possible through specific funding. This year, the ‘Creation Africa’ program once again enables us to support entrepreneurship in the cultural and creative industries sector. This fund, entrusted to us for 18 months by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, makes this initiative possible.”
Mrs. Ijeoma Onah, founder of NIFS, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are truly excited about the tremendous support from the French Embassy in facilitating a Nigerian Pavilion at MIPCOM Cannes, the world’s largest global content distribution market. This partnership strengthens our commitment to advancing international business for Nigerian film and TV professionals. Through the Nigerian International Film and TV Summit, we remain dedicated to unlocking substantial international revenue opportunities by licensing local programs. The impact of this market will undoubtedly elevate and transform the landscape of international distribution for Nigerian companies.”
Mrs. Onah will lead the Nigerian delegation to Cannes alongside Mr. Christophe Pecot, Audiovisual Attaché of the French Embassy in Nigeria.
