…As West Ham, Arsenal Clash In London Derby
LAGOS – It’s that time of the week we always look forward to. Clear your schedules because this weekend’s English Premier League lineup is one for the ages! From intense rivalries to potential upsets, these matches are packed with drama, history, and high stakes.
London pride is on the line in the last match this evening as Arsenal continues its quest for the top spot. Can West Ham deliver a shock at home?
Both West Ham and Arsenal head into today’s Premier League clash with renewed confidence.
The Hammers have endured a largely miserable season so far but claimed an impressive 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday night to offer hope of progress under Julen Lopetegui.
While supporters are unlikely to be getting too excited just yet, there were certainly reasons to feel positive. It was by no means a robbery at St James’ Park, with Lopetegui’s side looking much the better team at times.
Still, the visit of the Gunners is another test entirely. Mikel Arteta recently welcomed back Martin Odegaard and duly made light work of Nottingham Forest in last weekend’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal then thrashed Sporting CP 5-1 in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) to continue their positive upturn in fortunes.
This London derby promises sparks as Arsenal aim to solidify their top spot, while West Ham seek redemption after their narrow defeat to Brighton.
Declan Rice returns to face his old club, and all eyes will be on him. Arsenal has a dominant record against West Ham, having won more Premier League matches against West Ham. On the other hand, West Ham has lost over 36 Premier League games and 15 games at home against Arsenal.
Lopetegui is banned from the touchline after picking up his third booking of the season on Tyneside.
Edson Alvarez is available again after his recent suspension, although Mohammed Kudus will serve the last of his five-match ban.
Niclas Fullkrug, meanwhile, remains a doubt as he recovers from the Achilles injury that has ruled him out since September. The Hammers are hopeful Jean- Clair Todibo will be fit after picking up a knock at Newcastle
The Gunners will be without Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, while Arteta refused to confirm if defender Gabriel Magalhaes would be fit after coming off against Sporting.
While West Ham will take confidence from Monday’s result, Arsenal look to have turned a corner of late after their recent struggles.
