LAGOS – As the festive season approaches, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Mowe Unit Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives on Ogun State roads.
Speaking at the second Annual General Meeting of Itesiwaju Omu Arogun ACDC, ACC Jachi John, the Unit Commander of FRSC Mowe, outlined the command’s strategies to curb road crashes and enforce traffic regulations during the Yuletide.
ACC John emphasized the importance of roadworthiness and compliance with traffic rules, warning against reckless behaviours such as driving under the influence, overloading, and driving without a valid license.
He stressed that individuals caught contravening traffic regulations will face strict enforcement measures.
“This is a period when we don’t take chances. If your vehicle is not roadworthy, don’t bring it out. If you are not licensed to drive, don’t drive. Do not drink and drive during this period because when we see you, we must arrest you.
Especially driving against traffic – that is, one-way driving – which gives me sleepless nights,” He stated.
ACC John added that; to minimize road crashes, the Mowe Unit has launched Operation Zero Tolerance to Crashes and begun sensitization campaigns in communities.
The commander reminded residents that road safety is a collective responsibility. “Crashes are the responsibility of everybody. If it doesn’t affect you today, it might affect someone in your family. Let us all speak out and talk to people,” he urged.
He also noted that the command has been fully equipped for its special patrol, which began on December 15 and will run until January 15, 2024. “We are fully prepared. The FRSC has provided all the necessary logistics, including patrol vans and emergency response support,” he said.
