The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has set the tone for 2025, calling for aggressive action and strategic alliances to combat road traffic crashes across Nigeria.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed stressed the need for a โstrategic partnership with relevant stakeholders in the joint campaign for sustained aggression against the menace of road traffic crashes in the country.โ
Mohammed praised FRSC personnel for their dedication but warned that the battle against road accidents must intensify.
โRoad traffic crashes donโt just happenโthey are caused, and they can be averted,โ he said, underscoring the Corpsโ focus on stronger public engagement and preventive measures.
Reflecting on 2024, Mohammed credited the Corpsโ achievements to the unwavering efforts of staff and the support of President Bola Tinubu.
However, he noted that significant challenges persist, including fatal crashes, defiance of traffic laws, and violence against FRSC officials.
The Corps Marshal vowed a tougher stance in 2025, warning that โbeliefs that make people ignore basic traffic rules and penchant for showing militant behaviours towards the personnel of the corps would not be condoned in the new year.โ
Mohammed highlighted the success of town hall meetings initiated in 2024, which fostered direct dialogue between communities and road safety officials, empowering passengers to hold drivers accountable.
โNo single organisation or government agency can achieve road safety alone. It requires collective effort from all sectors of society,โ he stated, urging stakeholders to remain steadfast in the fight for safer roads.
As part of the 2025 agenda, Mohammed pledged to bolster staff welfare policies and ensure heightened vigilance on highways.
The Corps Marshal reaffirmed his commitment to building on the progress made, assuring that the FRSC will double down on proactive measures to reduce road crashes and fatalities.
