President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been described as a promise-keeper by the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.

The monarch stated this while receiving the management team of the Federal University of Technology, Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH), led by the Chief Medical Director(CMD), Prof. Olusegun Ojo, at his palace on Monday.

Oba Aladetoyinbo told his visitors that he and the people of Akure had been pursuing the Teaching Hospital since the time of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, but it was not approved for us.

The first-class monarch disclosed that when he met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s home, he told him that Akure needed a teaching hospital.

According to him, right there, the President promised to approve the tertiary medical institution for Akure.

Oba Aladetoyinbo said President Tinubu, being a promise-keeper, has fulfilled the promise as he approved the hospital for Akure.

The traditional ruler said: “We have been pursuing this Teaching Hospital since the time of the late President Muhammadu Buhari. When I told him, he promised to give us, but he never approved it.

“When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu came to visit Pa Reuben Fasoranti, I met him there, and I told him that we need a teaching hospital.

“I explained to him that Akure was the only state capital that didn’t have a federal teaching hospital.

“There and then, he promised to give a teaching hospital, and without delay, he has approved it for us. That is how we got FUTATH.”

Meanwhile, the monarch assured the CMD and the management of the teaching hospital that he would rally sons and daughters of the Akure kingdom to support the institution in terms of infrastructure, equipment and finance.

Earlier, the CMD appreciated Oba Aladetoyinbo for his support for the Teaching Hospital from outset.

He said the courtesy visit was to introduce the newly constituted management team of the teaching hospital to the monarch, promising unalloyed loyalty of the management.

Speaking with newsmen after the visit, the CMD appreciated President Tinubu for giving the institution the marching orders.

He also disclosed that the institution would soon embark on informing the people of Akure and Ondo State in general on the services the institution would be rendering.

Prof. Ojo stated that the institution would strengthen its SERVICOM unit to be able to interact with the people and prospective patients to be able to serve them better.

The CMD said: “Kabiyesi, FUTA Teaching Hospital is not only a Federal Institution; it is a pride of Akure Kingdom. It is our responsibility, as custodians of this mandate, to ensure that the hospital delivers quality healthcare, contributes to medical education, supports research, creates employment opportunities, and positively impacts the well-being of our host community.

“As a new Management Team, we have come with a clear resolve to consolidate on the foundation already laid, to uphold professionalism, integrity, and excellence in service delivery, and to foster a harmonious relationship with our host community.

“We recognise that peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and continuous engagement with traditional institutions remain critical to the success of our mission.

“Your Royal Majesty, on behalf of the Management and staff of Futa Teaching Hospital, Akure, I humbly pledge our unalloyed loyalty, respect, and cooperation to the throne of the Deji of Akure and the revered traditional institution of Akure Kingdom.

“We assure Kabiyesi and the Iwarefa that we shall always seek guidance, maintain open communication, and conduct the affairs of the hospital in a manner that brings honour to Akure Kingdom and pride to our nation.”
