Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, on Friday in Sagamu, encouraged corps members deployed to the state to
to uphold discipline, lifelong learning, and service to humanity.
The Governor stated while presiding over the Swearing-In ceremony /official commencement of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream ll Orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp at the Sagamu International Stadium along Ikenne Road.
Governor Abiodun, represented by Hon Wasiu Isiaka, the Commissioner For Sports Development, emphasized that youths are “the future of Nigeria” and congratulated them on completing their studies and embarking on this “Noble call to National Service.”
Prince Abiodun praised the NYSC scheme as a “unifying and transformative pillar of national development” and urged corps members to embrace the opportunity to demonstrate patriotism and selflessness.
He assured them that the Ogun State Government is committed to youth empowerment and sees them as “Partners in development and ambassadors of progress”.
He highlighted the state’s “Building Our Future Together Agenda” and its “I.S.E.Y.A. mantra” (Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Well-being, Education, Youth Empowerment, and Agriculture) as foundational for prosperity.
Governor Abiodun encouraged corps members to contribute meaningfully to their host communities, avoid anti-social behaviours, and be role models.
He mentioned the state’s programmes for youth development, including vocational training, entrepreneurship support, mentorship, and sports development, citing the recent hosting of the 22nd National Sports Festival as an example of their commitment to youth and national unity.
Declaring the orientation course programme open, he acknowledged the support of all NYSC stakeholders and wished the corps members an impactful and fulfilling stay in Ogun State.
Earlier in her welcome note, the Coordinator of the Scheme in the state, Mrs Olayinka Nasamu, reflected on the establishment of the scheme established in 1973 with the primary objective of fostering national unity and integration after the Nigerian Civil War.
She disclosed, “I report that the camp opened on Wednesday 11th of June, 2025. At the end of registration, a total of 2, 541 prospective corps members were registered, comprising 1,123 males and 1, 418 females.
Nasamu lauded the quick integration of the corps members into the regimented camp life, warned against all acts of indiscipline and urged them to study the documented NYSC guidelines for a clearer understanding of every aspect of the service year and ask questions when in doubt.
She lauded the unflinching support accorded the scheme by Governor Dapo Abiodun, just as she praised the support of both the Hausa and Igbo leaderships, partner security agencies and the Nigerian Army in other parts of the state for their collaborations.
The highlights of the swearing-in ceremony included the symbolic administration of the NYSC oath and the National Pledge on corps members conducted by the Honourable Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, the Chief Judge of Ogun State represented by Honourable Justice Adetokunbo Jibodu.
The swearing-in ceremonies witnessed an unprecedented presence of three Council Chairman from Ijebu-Ode, Ifo and Ijebu-North Local Government Areas.
The event also featured pet talks by both Seriki Hausa and Eze Ndigbo leaders in Sagamu.
