A group on the platform of Global Initiative For Arts, Thursday, said that the Edo State Government, under the visionary leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, has taken a bold step to repositioning the stateโs economy with the renaming of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism to the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.
The group gave the commendation in a statement signed by its Coordinator General, Comrade Amadi Akugbe and made available to Journalists in Benin.
He said that this strategic move underscores Governor Okpebholoโs commitment to harnessing the power of the creative industry to drive economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
Comrade Akugbe said the new ministry will focus on leveraging Edo Stateโs rich cultural heritage and creative talent to attract investments, stimulate innovation, and promote cultural exchange.
Speaking further, Akugbe added that the Shine Agenda, championed by Governor Okphebholo, aims to make Edo State a hub for creative excellence, promoting the stateโs unique cultural identity globally.
He added that this initiative is expected to unlock new opportunities for artistes, creatives, and entrepreneurs, contributing to the stateโs economic diversification and growth.
He said in line with this change, Governor Okphebholo has demonstrated his confidence in the administrative capabilities of Iryn Omorogiuwa Esq, reassigning her to this critical ministry as Permanent Secretary.
He said this appointment underscores the Governorโs trust in her expertise and leadership, and her role will be instrumental in driving the ministryโs agenda forward.
He said Edo State is well known for its arts, culture and tourism and that with the Shine Agenda of Mr. Governor, more people have taken interest in investing in the sector.
The coordinator of the group said that the rush for the investment is possible because of the institutional reforms of the Edo state government.
He said the industry cannot thrive when there are no good road networks adding that, addressing that challenge, the governor has embarked on massive road rehabilitations and constructions across the state.
He said this has really impacted the lives of those in the arts, culture and tourism sector bountifully.
