If the recent Gladiator II trailer hasn’t whet your appetite for epic ancient Roman entertainment, then new series Those About to Die looks likely to fill the current void in lavish swords-and-sandals drama.
Based on Daniel Mannix’s classic non-fiction book bearing the same title, the 10-part drama is set in Rome in 79 AD and focuses on the corrupt world of gladiatorial competition during the reign of Emperor Vespasian.
Helmed by Robert Rodat, the writer of Steven Spielberg’s war epic Saving Private Ryan, and with movie blockbuster expert Roland Emmerich on directing duties, the show stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as the under-pressure Vespasian. He’s looking to turn around Rome’s fortunes, with Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon playing Tenax, an underworld figure that’s about to stake a claim for a seat of power.

The gladiator action is comes to Peacock in the US, with all episodes available on the streaming service from Thursday, July 18.
All episodes of Those About to Die will meanwhile be available to watch in the UK, Australia and Canada on Prime Video a day later from Friday, July 19.
Stream Those About to Die in the US
Peacock is where its at for all the political intrigue and gory Coliseum action in the US, with all episodes of Those About to Die available to stream from Thursday July 18.
A Peacock Premium subscription costs $8 a month for the ad-based version, or $14 a month for Peacock Premium Plus, which removes most commercial interruptions as well as giving you the option to download select content to watch offline. Note there are some ads on the Premium Plus subscription due to content licensing agreements.

Unlike the US, the show is exclusive to Amazon Prime Video in these three regions, with all episodes available from Friday, July 19.

Follow the VPN provider’s instructions for installation, and choose a country where the series is streaming on a service like Peacock. Before you open the streaming app, make sure you’re connected to your VPN using your selected region.
