Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has paid tribute to the late Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, describing him as a champion of equity who canvassed the Igbo presidency in the spirit of fairness.
In a statement on Tuesday by Ohanaezeโs National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Ohanaezeโs President General, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, said the Igbo found an ally and a big brother in Adebajo, who died last Friday at the age of 96.
Ohanaeze expressed deep condolences to Pa Adebanjoโs family, particularly his wife, Chief Christy Ayo Adebanjo, as well as to the Yoruba nation and his global supporters.
It stated, โFor us, Pa Adebanjo was not just a leader but a true brother. He stood with us in our fight for an egalitarian Nigeria and for justice in the call for Igbo presidency,โ the statement read.
Describing Adebanjo as a โcharismatic leader and esteemed statesman,โ the Ohanaeze leadership praised his lifelong commitment to social justice and the rule of law, noting his pivotal role in founding the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum.
There, he continuously advocated for inclusive national leadership and the bridging of regional divides.
โHis advocacy for an inclusive, fair, and just Nigeria resonated with us deeply,โ said Ohanaeze. โWe found in him not just an ally, but a steadfast brother who worked tirelessly to create a united and equitable country.
