LAGOS – Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has said that the implementation of toll fees at the nation’s airports would address one of the key revenue leakages in the agency.
To address the situation, Kuku said that FAAN had initiated a comprehensive public awareness campaign on access gate, a new policy that came onboard last week by the Federal Government.
A statement by Kuku, said that it was necessary for all airport users to be well-informed about the new policy.
She said that the policy was determined to eliminate the leakages in the system.
Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace development had last week, mandated all airport users including the military to pay access gate fees at all 24 airports under the country of the Federal Government.
Kuku commended President Bola Tinubu and the minister for their proactive role in helping to give vent to the use of technology in order to shore up revenue, prevent leakages and reduce the abuse of privileges by the Very Important Persons (VIPs) in the country.
She said: “FAAN is currently poised to leverage technology to intensify its revenue drive. The new mandate also provides some protection for FAAN staff, who are often bullied and railroaded by VIPs and military personnel.”
She expressed that the implementation of the e-tag regime in Lagos and Abuja international airports and non-exclusion of VIPs in the payment for access gate fees at all airports in Nigeria was immediate.
She however said that efforts were being made to ameliorate the traffic gridlock that may be experienced at the early stages of the implementation of the directive, especially in Lagos and Abuja airports.
She posited that all government organisations, including the military and VIPs have fully keyed into the directive by Tinubu.
She maintained that with this, FAAN was guaranteed of maximum support from all sides.
