The administration also called for an end to the negative portrayal of the Fulani in some sections of the media.
Speaking on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Kano chapter of the Tabital Fulaku International, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, emphasised the governmentโs commitment to empowering the Fulani community.
Gwarzo who also highlighted the invaluable contributions of the Fulani to Nigeria, spanning leadership, agriculture, and other key sectors, stressed that, โThe Fulani community has consistently contributed to Nigeriaโs development, producing distinguished political leaders, academics, technocrats, legal experts, and security chiefs.
โRemarkably, a Fulani man currently holds the position of National Security Adviser,โ he stated.
The deputy governor further expressed concern over the negative stereotyping of the Fulani in the media and urged journalists to portray the community in a more balanced and accurate light.
โIt is disheartening that some sections of the media tarnish their image. The Fulani are herders who sustain our economy and contribute significantly to agriculture. Such negative portrayals are unwarranted,โ he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Gwarzo encouraged the leadership of the Fulani communities to engage with government officials of Fulani heritage to seek collaborative support and development opportunities.
Additionally, he called on the Federal Government and security agencies to address the misrepresentation of the Fulani community in the media, which he described as damaging to their noble history and contributions.
ย โI advise you to collaborate with stakeholders to preserve and enhance the Fulaniโs image,โ he said, urging Fulbe associations across the country to unite and safeguard their rights and privileges.
Earlier during the visit, the Ardo of Tabital Fulaku International Nigeria, Alhaji Sanusi Abdullahi Nassarawa, explained that their engagement with the state government was aimed at seeking support for the Fulani community and informing the government about the associationโs efforts.
He outlined the groupโs mission to unite the Fulani people, modernise their trade, and educate their youth while fostering collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
โThe Fulani are peaceful and development-oriented people who have contributed immensely to Nigeriaโs growth,โ Alhaji Sanusi stated.
