LAGOS – Peace has returned to the Lagos State chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo as members met and agreed to sheath their swords and work as a team in the interest of Ndigbo.
Peace was reached after a series of meetings where the contending parties met and trashed their differences in Lagos.
The organization also resolved to set up a committee to review its by-laws and remove ambiguous sections that have led to misinterpretations by different people.
The secretary of the organization, Chief Robert Obasi, called on members to nominate credible people that will serve in the committee, adding that the committee will be given adequate resources to do its work.
Speaking at an enlarged meeting of the organization at the weekend, the president of the Lagos State Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Sunday Ossai, said that with the crisis over, the members of the organization will work together to move the organization forward.
He said, “Peace is critical to the success of any organization and without it we will be stuck. We had to make many sacrifices to achieve peace in Lagos State Ohanaeze. We could not achieve our set objectives and now that we have peace, we will work together in the interest of the people that elected us into office.”
Ossai commended members of the organization for their input into the process and charged them to continue work as one.
Also speaking at the event, the public relation of the organization, Mrs. Violet Obiora, stated that divisions in the organization had led to loss of support for the organization, adding that many benefits that ought to have reached members had eluded them.
She stressed the women will support Ossai to succeed as president of the organization and charged others to do the same, adding that peace will lead to the organization achieving its objectives.
However, Ezeigbo Somolu, Eze Gabriel Obi, the Atunluse of Somolul and urged the members of the executive of the organization to work together as a team to serve the interest of the members of the organization.
He also told them to work with ndieze to achieve the objectives of the organization, adding that they should work as a team.
In his comment, Prince Ubochi C. Ubochi, the traditional prime minister of Amaifeke in Imo State, stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the management of the affairs of the organization.
He argued that all money received by the organization should be entered into the record books before they are spent.
Also speaking at the event, Prince Tony Nwakaeze, a prominent Igbo leader in Lagos State, charged members of the organization to ensure that they make leadership recruitment transparent and democratic, adding that they should elect honest and credible people to run the affairs of the organization.
He charged them not to allow any money bag to hijack the organization, adding that bad leaders breed crises in organizations.
Present at the event were Chief Everest Ozonweke, Coordinator Ohanaeze Ndigbo, South West; Chief Tony Nwakeze, Chief Pat Nwanze, Eze Ibeju Lekki, Eze Apachi, who sent a representative.
