Patrick Doyle, the veteran Nollywood actor, has criticized colleagues who openly back politicians for personal gain, describing such behavior as greedy.
He revealed this in an interview with Oyinmomo TV.
He said that entertainers who are financially secure should focus on speaking for the people rather than chasing private rewards from political alliances.
The 64-year-old actor explained that some actors and filmmakers even end up in disputes over the money they receive after promoting politicians.
Doyle noted that many in the entertainment industry are already well-off from their work, and chasing additional financial benefits from political campaigns is unnecessary.
The veteran also warned that acting is an art form that should remain independent of government influence.
He observed that more entertainers have been openly aligning with politicians, which has caused divisions within the industry.
During the last presidential election, he said, some actors faced online and physical attacks because of their political choices.
He said: “Many of the entertainers are greedy. Because if you consider the entertainment industry very well, actors are getting fed well from their income.
“And if you are comfortable and you want to contribute, you should not be looking for personal benefits again. They should speak on behalf of the masses.
“Most of those entertainers who campaigned in my presence, you would actually think they are really campaigning for that person, and when they are done, you will still see the entertainers fighting themselves over the financial benefit.
“The problem is just greed.”
